One Last Service – Abandoned Church

When we arrived at the little Methodist Church in Knox County, Texas we were impressed with its condition and surprised that it was somewhat preserved. Much of the stain glass was busted out, the doors were knocked in, and the local teenagers were using it as a drinking spot but easily could be saved.

As we started to document the inside of the church we found old hymnals lying on the church pews or in the hymnal pockets on the backs of the pews. It was as if the last member closed the door in hopes for it to reopen the following Sunday for service.

On the pulpit we found a well preserved a Methodist Sermon book open to the seventeenth Sunday. This was probably put there as joke or staged by another photographer but it still surprises me that these old books are still here, close to their original locations, and savable.
