The  Pythian Castle also known as the Pythian Home was built in 1913 by the Knights of Pythias and when they constructed the castle they added a detached power plant out back. The castle was built as an orphanage and retirement home for children and widows of members of the order. It was called The Pythian Home of Missouri. It was also used as a meeting hall for Pythian members.

In 1942 the United States Military took control of the building and used it along with the O’Reilly General Hospital during World War II for entertaining and rehabilitating injured U.S. troops. The Pythian Castle was renamed The Enlisted Men’s Service Club. The building had a movie theater, bowling alley, pool hall, ballroom, library, and even an arts and crafts building.

Then in 1993, the building was sold as surplus and the new owners renovated the building. In 2010, the Pythian Castle once again opened its doors to the public.

About the Image

I took this shot by hand with my Sony Nex-3N and a Sony 16mm prime lens, then processed it with Adobe Lightroom to crop, straightened, and remove dust spots from the image. Then I post processed the image with Topaz Labs Clarity to add more texture, remove shadows, boost brightness and contrast. I then used Topaz DeNoise to remove noise from the image.
