Looking at it you might think its just another abandoned in a small west, Texas town. But this one is different. Its actually an old railroad station to an abandoned rail system.

The station has been here a long time. Almost hundred years. I’m not sure if it’s the original building but, its looks like it was built before the 1920s.

At first I wasn’t sure what this building was but, it looked like an old train station. There aren’t any tracks but its in the shape of a rail station or rail depot. After some research, I found this to be the abandoned Santa Fe Rail Depot in Hamlin, Texas. The depot was shut down sometime in the late 1980s or early 1990s (at least that’s when this section of the Santa Fe rail system was demolished and the tracks were torn out. From what I read, this section of the tracks and several other sections were torn out and the depots and stations were demolished. So I’m surprised that this one has survived as long as it has.

But sadly it won’t be around much longer. Its full of mold and rot. The outer decking is rotting and the storage area roof is missing.

I’m currently researching the abandoned Santa Fe Rail Depot in Hamlin, Texas and editing the rest of the images from this location. That information will be posted on the personal site, hopefully in the next few days.

About the Image

The image was shot by hand in the middle of the afternoon between the storms with my Sony Nex-3N and a Sony SEL16F28 16mm f/2.8. I then edited the image in Adobe Lightroom.
