WordPress is a fantastic tool and one that rightly has a lot of fans. Essentially,WordPress is a blogging platform and a content management tool which makes it exceedingly simple for anyone to create a site and to start uploading content to it on a regular basis. You don’t need to know anything about coding, you can find a huge community of support and a range of plugins and themes to edit your site easily and it makes the whole process much quicker and less complicated versus coding your own site. However WordPressn does have its limitations and it’s certainly not the answer for everyone. Here we will look at some of the reasons you shouldn’t use WordPress and some of the ways it can end up stifling you.
Extra Features and Functions
WordPress works in a specific way and this right away limits what you can do with it. If you were hoping to make your pages look different colours depending on the time of day they are being viewed, or if you wanted to add an exciting Flash navigation (not advised but hey, it’s up to you) then using WordPress would make this very difficult. If you want your site to be as flexible as possible then, and if you want to be able to add your own features and elements without restriction, then you should always code it yourself or with a web designer.
Design Limitations
There are also design limitations in terms of the way you can set out your content and your images. WordPress is designed to be a blog first and foremost, so its focus will be the regularly updated posts and their categories. Image Source: WordPress
This won’t always lend itself to the kind of website you are trying to build however. If for instance, you want to create a website that is essentially a portfolio for your work as an interior designer, then you won’t be able to create this easily using WordPress. Likewise, if you want to make a website that has lots of static pages, then although this is possible with WordPress, you would be better suited by going a different route.
It Can Reflect Badly on Your Business
A lot of companies do use WordPress, so it’s not necessarily going to damage your reputation if you choose to do the same. However that said, building a site with WordPress is something that anyone can do and so it’s not going to right away make your company or website seem particularly impressive or professional. If you create a complex site using HTML and make it look unique but well designed, then this will right away tell your visitors that yours is a professional website and a professional business and that you either have an in house team or have invested in outsourcing the process to a good company that knows how to create good websites. All this will help to inspire your visitors to trust your company and presume that you’ll put the same time and effort into the services you provide for them.
