Last week we shared a collection of great tutorials from September. I then promised that I would share October’s collection the next week. As promised, here is October’s list of great Photoshop Tutorials!
The Best Photoshop Tutorials Created in October
October was an interesting month for Photoshop tutorials. Normally, during the month of October, there are a lot of horror related tutorials. But this year, there wasn’t that many and most were not very helpful. So instead of sharing a bunch of horror related tutorials, I have put together a great collection of Photoshop beginner and advanced level tutorials.

Create a Tangled, Horror Cracked Figure with Layer Masking Techniques in Photoshop
“In this tutorial, I will show you the steps I took to Create a Horror Cracked Human Figure with Layer Masking Techniques in Photoshop. The primary goal of this tutorial is to show you how you can blend textures together with layer mask, and how to achieve the best end result possible.
We will also go through other skills such as image adjustments, layer blending, selection tools and some simple photo retouches.
This is an intermediate level Photoshop tutorial so some steps can be tricky.”
Design Vintage Artwork with Old Newspaper and Watercolor Brush in Photoshop
“In this tutorial, I will show you the steps I took to Design this Watercolour Vintage Artwork with Old Newspaper in Photoshop.
Along the way, I will show you how to mix custom watercolour brushes and old newspaper to create vintage feel in Photoshop. This is an intermediate level Photoshop tutorial so some steps can be tricky – if you think you’re up to the challenge, please go ahead :)”
Create a Raw Horror Movie Poster Design in Photoshop
“Each year Halloween gives us a great excuse to hack at our designs with the most grungy brushes and textures in our collection to create the most raw and gory artwork we can. Follow this step by step tutorial to create an old school style horror movie poster. We’ll create a low-fi print effect with red on black and use a range of splatter brushes to rough up the design and capture the horror theme.” This is an intermediate tutorial.
Selective Sepia Effect in Photoshop
“In this Photoshop tutorial, we are going to produce a selective sepia effect, i.e., we shall produce the sepia effect in some particular region in the image, leaving the rest of the picture as it is. This is relatively harder than what we’d done the last time in which we brought about the sepia in the picture as a whole. The tricky part here is the careful and precise selection that we must learn to make and we’ll be using the smartest method of selection for it. Other than that it’s really just a good old easy to do and remember kind of tutorial.” This is an intermediate level Photoshop tutorial.
Adding Text Behind a Scene in Photoshop
“In this Photoshop tutorial, you are going to learn how to add your text behind a scene in Photoshop. You can now add your text behind any particular object in your image and still make it look like it belongs there. You’ll be doing this by the clever use of the layer mask option. Below is a picture of motorbike. You’ll be bringing your text behind this particular motorbike and not the whole image. There is a difference.” This is an intermediate level Photoshop tutorial.
Lomo Effect in Photoshop
“In this Photoshop tutorial, we are going to produce the lomo effect in Photoshop CS5. The lomo effect is about adjusting the color contrast and color manipulation. It works best in images that are quite unexciting and ask for more. The lomo effect can be made in many different ways but the color balance in the end result is always one that is more eye catchy than the original picture.”
Man Of Steel Movie Poster Tutorial
“In this tutorial we’ll recreate the cool looking Superman Man of Steel teaser movie poster using some cool professional techniques.” This is more advanced tutorial for beginners.
