Earlier this month StudioPress released another great skin for the Genesis Framework. That new theme is the Scribble child theme. This theme has seven color styles (blue green, lavender, orange, pink, red, and teal), 3 layout options, custom header, feature images, fixed width, theme, and threaded comments.
This skin has a classic look with a bit of flare to it. The Scribble theme provides you with a way for you to show off your photos, text and video.
At first glance, the theme has a darkish feel to it, but after closer inspection it has just the right amount of color add the professional look and not such a darkish feel.
As the intro suggests, you have seven different color themes to choose from. The color you choose from do not change the gray and black theme that you see through the child theme, but it does give a splash color so its not so boring or to gloomy. The splash of color is used in the menus and in the links. When ever you hover over some of the links you get a color change to one of the seven colors you choose. Then there are some links that are always with color. So when choosing a color, choose a color that you like and goes with your logos and the primary images you use throughout the site.
Next thing I noticed is the fonts they used/ It doesn’t use basic boring web safe fonts through out the theme, but uses a fancy script font for the titles. For me this important, I get tired of seeing boring fonts on the sites and themes I use.
One of first custom touches I do to a theme is add web fonts to make my themes and skins unique. So with the custom fonts, used through out the theme, that is one less change I have to make. However, I might would change font through the content to something that goes good with title font but still can easily be read. If you want to change font your StudioPress skin, check out the tutorial I wrote over at WordPress Junkies on to make these changes with a Studiopress site.
If you have some images or screen shots from your portfolio that you want to display on your site, the scribble theme has this feature to. It looks great and it will look even better with your images displayed in the photo section of the theme.
