In our last article we talked about HTML color/hex codes. But we really didn’t really go into detail about web safe colors and why we might want to use them. In this article, I will go into more detail about color safe colors.
Using Web Safe Colors
A few years back, well a lot of years back, when computers only supported 256 colors a web standard was set that gave designers a choice of 216 colors to choose from that were considered web safe and 40 other colors were reserved for fixed system colors.
But today, its not all that important to have color safe colors in your designs. Modern computers can display millions of colors.

Final thoughts
Although using color safe colors in your design is not important today, there are still some users using older computers. So if you are building a site and this might be a concern or your building a site where you offer products and services, you might want to think about this in your designs. After all, there are over two hundred colors to choose from and most color generators can help you select color safe schemes for your designs.
