Earlier today I came across an article on WordPress.Org that WordPress 3.0 was released. For at least a half a year, WordPress Developers have been working hard to get the WordPress 3.0 released and there hard work has paid off! WordPress 3.0 is available for download and if you already have WordPress installed then all you need to do is upgrade by going into to your dashboard >>> Tools >>> Upgrade and follow the directions from there.
One of the new features of the upgrade is a new default theme called “2010” and they describe this new theme as “sexy”. After watching the video, with all of its features, I have to agree this theme is very sexy for a default. I plan on testing this new theme out with a new site I am working on. If it works out, I will keep this theme up and running until I move on to custom theme.
WordPress 3.0 released with a ton of new features. Some of those are;
- WordPress and WordPess MU have been merged. Management of multiple sites (called Multisite) can be done from one WordPress Installation.
- “TwentyThen” a new custom them uses the new features of WordPress 3.0 was added to the default theme selection.
- Menu management now allows creation of custom menus for combing postings, pages, categories, tags, and links for use in theme menus or widgets
- custom header and background APIs was added
- Admin username and password can now be set during installation
- Bulk updates for themes with automatic maintenace mode during the process
- Shortlink support
- Improved custom post types and custom taxonomies
For a complete list, there is a feature list up that you can view.
Check out this video walkthrough about the new WordPress 3.0 and its features.
Conclusion
I haven’t updated yet, I prefer to wait a little while and see what others have issues with after the update. Plus my current them doesn’ t support many of the changes. So its not all that important for me to upgrade. However, once I test and do a test upgrade on my test system, I plan on doing the upgrade.
Have you already done the upgrade? Did you have any issues with the upgrade? Have you checked out the new 2010 Theme yet? What are your thoughts.

Re: 2010. It’s a nice default theme, but I’m not changing mine anytime soon. What makes a design “pop” for me are beautiful, elegant fonts and an excellent use of negative space with sparse color. There’s something electric about minimalist, clean design that emphasizes how writing looks.
WordPress 3.0 is the best update yet by WordPress. The custom menu feature is totally overdo and it’s done perfectly by the folks at WP.
I’m not sure the facelift was necessary, but it looks cool all the same.
I’m a StudioPress and ElegantThemes afficionado. I use them all the time. 2010 looks okay, but I tend to always revert back to my stable of themes from above-mentioned theme developers.
